HIGHLIGHTS OF May's SILVER SEARCHING:
May half searching was about $35000 less than April, the lowest amount of half searching all year. Moreover, production of SILVER halves was 54% less than April. $115,058.50 halves were searched, and only 468 SILVER halves were found. 2.03 SILVER halves per box on average were found. Also, of the 288 half boxes searched, 160 of them were SKUNKS!! War Nicks found (52) was 27 less than in April (the lowest found in any month in the past 2 years); there were 377 SILVER dimes found (60 less than in April); and 6 SILVER quarters were discovered in the wild. Locutus had the best $500 box in April with 71 SILVER halves. AGCoinHunter found 18 SILVERs in a $1000 bag in May. CardNCoins found 26 SILVER dimes out of a $250 box of dimes. 6 different sorters found 2 War Nicks in a $100 box of nickels.
On the leadership boards: CardNCoins found an outstanding number of SILVER halves (341), just exceeding Locutus (329). CardsNCoins found an amazing number of SILVER dimes (169); rsk1963 who found 50 was a distant second. adamsp27 and cwgii were the best at finding War Nicks, each finding 12 during May.
Other highlights are as follows:
5/5 - CardsNCoins gets 26 SILVER dimes in a $250 box, including 8 Mercuries.
5/7 - Locutus finds 71 SILVER halves in a $500 box, including 68 Franklins.
5/8 - Not to be outdone, CardsNCoins gets a 23 SILVER dime box and a 12 SILVER dime box.
5/9 - hirbonzig gets a SILVER quarter in change.
5/11 - CardsNCoins finds his first Barber half in a box of halves.
5/19 - CardsNCoins finds an amazing 11 rolls of SOLID 1964 halves!!!
5/19 - rsk1963 gets 2 1964 SILVER quarters in change at a store.
5/21 - Investin Cents gets his first SILVER half dollars from a bank.
5/23 - AGCoinHunter finds 18 SILVER halves in a $1000 bag of halves.
5/25 - Searching since 2008, PreservingThePast finally finds a 1987 proof coin - 1987-S dime.

It's important to post your SKUNKS as well as your great SILVER finds. That keeps the statistics honest. I'll try to post some graphs of our SILVER finds as 2011 proceeds along by adding data to this initial post. I'll see if I can post some interesting insights into the data here in this initial post for 2011 too. Even though this is a national tabulation of all our finds, I think its fun to know what finds are being made and at what frequentcy.
It might be interesting to see how many Barbers, Walkers, Franklins, and 90% Kennedys are found too. Also, how many Barbers and Mercurys dimes we find. I'll try to keep track of all of these.
