HIGHLIGHTS OF August's SILVER SEARCHING:

August was the least productive month this year: only 819 SILVER halves were found. Only $69,944.50 halves were searched to find them; however, the percentage of SILVER halves produced was more productive than July. About 6 SILVER halves per box on average were found. There were some great finds this month, but 50 SILVER halves were the most found in anyones box. Quantities searched for other denominations dropped of a bit from last month. Perhaps, many of the searchers were busy doing summertime activities during this hot month of August.

On the leadership boards: UDEric found the most SILVER halves once again (247), while AGCoinHunter was second best again with 213 SILVER halves. gravybro found the most SILVER dimes (30), beating out last month's leader rakattack who found 21 SILVER dimes this month. cwgii was the best at finding War Nicks (30) and ZigMeister was second best with 21.

Other highlights are as follows:

8/2 - Heartkill finds 66 SILVER halves in 6 rolls of CWRs.
8/2 - AGCoinHunter gets 89 - 40%ers in 23 rolls of CWRs.
8/2 - UDEric finds 7 SILVER dimes in a $250 box of dimes - the highest number this year.
8/5 - Roadrunner hits the jackpot in $72 of CWRs: 6 Wars and 4 Buffalos.
8/6 - AGCoinHunter gets a 50 SILVER box of halves, including a Stone Mountain Commemorative.
8/7 - rakattack gets 2 SILVER quarters from a teller tray.
8/13 - bankmining gets 9 Walkers sorting 17 rolls of CWR halves.
8/14 - rakattack gets 3 1964 SILVER quarters from a teller tray.
8/16 - Heartkill finds a very impressive solid SILVER Canadian quarter roll.
8/17 - ZigMeister finds 4 War Nicks in each of two boxes of nickels.
8/20 - chris6084 reports a V-Nick find, the 13th reported here this year.
8/26 - Sheikh_yer_BuTay finds 31 SILVER halves in a $1000 bag.
8/26 - rainsonme finds 4 War Nicks in a $100 box of nickels
8/27 - AGCoinHunter gets 49 SILVERs in a box of halves.
8/31 - beauanderos gets 31 SILVERs in a box of halves (five end rolls showing SILVER).

It's important to post your SKUNKS as well as your great SILVER finds. That keeps the statistics honest. I'll try to post some graphs of our SILVER finds as 2010 proceeds along by adding data to this initial post. I'll see if I can post some interesting insights into the data here in this initial post for 2010 too. Even though this is a national tabulation of all our finds, I think its fun to know what finds are being made and at what frequentcy.

It might be interesting to see how many Barbers, Walkers, Franklins, and 90% Kennedys are found too. Also, how many Barbers and Mercurys dimes we find. I'll try to keep track of all of these.

The total SILVER count for each box is either the actual reported SILVERs, $1000 bag SILVERs divided by two, and a few SILVER counts that were extrapolated from multiple box reports that did not delinate how many SILVERs were in each box. The chart shows the number of SILVERs on the horizontal axis and the number of boxes for that count on the vertical axis. I was at the bank today and some lady was bringing in some rolled coins of the 4 major denominations, ie no dollars or halves but quarters through pennies. My spidey sense if you will went off so I bought her 9 rolls of quarters and found 2 silver quarters plus a 1 English pound coin.

This isn't a September find but I wanted to share the story of a July find I had. I went in town to my community bank to pick up some bags of cents and nickels and while I was waiting one of the tellers came up to me and asked me if I was after any halves. She had a roll in her hand and she said "look, there's silver in this one". She opened one end of the roll and spilled them out onto the counter and sure enough, there was several 40% in it. She told me a lady came into the bank earlier in the day and turned them in. The teller said there was 19 rolls. I took all of them and dashed home to see if I had any luck. To make a long story short, out of 19 rolls I ended up with a hair over 8 1/2 rolls. 171 40% Kennedys. I didn't take any pictures of them and shortly after I got them I used the halves as part of a swap on a 1916d mercury dime. This was the best bank snag I have ever had and probably ever will have and it was just pure luck. Being in the right place at the right time.
