to scrap or not to scrap?!

Postby GA-Silver » Mon Nov 08, 2010 4:08 pm

I have a old clothes dryer that I am going to scrap. Should I get parts off of it (if so, which ones?), or just sell the whole dryer at the scrap yard. I don't want to spend 2 hours scarpping $5 of metal out of the dryer......

It doesn't take much to clip the wires that run through the back of the dryer. I usually pop the back of the drier off and cut out the motor that runs the drier. I also make it a point to look for any change/lost jewelry in the bottom of the dryer. It happens pretty often that things get caught inside that part of the drier, so don't sell it without checking first! The price for motors is 5 times steel price (7 cents per pound) so you can decide if it is worth it. Hope that helps!
