Scrap Platinum

Postby Rejinx » Mon Dec 12, 2011 9:20 pm

Lets say there is place where they use industrial platinum foil. Tiny flakes, less then a gram, are getting swept up and thrown away. If you could get as much an 10 to 15 grams off of a sweep up, is there any way someone could sell this without raising questions? Also, how would the buyer know the platinum content?

Thanks

If you can get it, save it up, there is a market. An assay is the only way it will be purchased.

You can try to sell a few Grams on e-bay maybe with MBG Some people have metal detectors so thay can tell if it is what you say and you may also try taking it to a jewler and get a cert. But I'm not sure they still do this sort of thing! At any rate, If you get it for free and make anything off it its ALLLLL profit.

Buyers have a device they can point at your pile of scraps, I think it is called an XRF? This device uses a form of X-rays and based on the results it is able to compute the composition. I can put you in touch with someone who would buy them from you if you PM me, though what he would pay, I don't know.
