Scrapping TV's....????

I see TV's everyday on Craigslist for FREE.

Is there money to be made with these? Most seem to be the huge older tube units. Looking for other streams of revenue for my stacking!

Problem is disposing of the tubes and plastic. The city where I live takes the plastic in the weekly pick up can for recycling and some Goodwill stores will take the tubes to recycle. The copper yoke is #2 copper, #2 insulated wires, Low grade board and some steel in them.

Is it worth the time and effort and use of space???? I got a big truck that's empty most of the time!

If you can get rid of the plastic and the tubes for no cost, It would be. Some places charge $5.00 - $15.00 to dispose of the tubes. I would check around where you live and see if there are any costs to get rid of this stuff. You should not just toss them into the trash...

I'm surrounded by Goodwill stores yet I haven't noticed any TV tube recycling going on.

I found a CL ad last year for 17 CRT pc monitors which I grabbed and then scrapped, I have also done a few TV's. My experience is that with some practice, it takes maybe 15-20 minutes to scrap each one and you end up with about $3-4 worth of mostly copper and wires depending on size (monitors yield a little more than TV's). I just broke up the Glass and other junk and put it in the trash. I'm not sure if that's ok or not but that's what I did. Does anyone know if that was ok? Or do most garbage companies have restrictions on that stuff?

I don't think most of them care, as long as it is in the bag and doesn't fall out.
