large capacitors

What do you do with large capacitors from microwaves and the like? The outer "shell" is alum. Do you break them up? Or keep them as "dirty alum" or something like that?

Thanks

Don't even touch high voltage caps unless you know exactlty what you are doing; let alone dismantling them for scrap value.

They can retain a charge for a long time and in some instances it's a serious charge that can really hurt, or even kill a human.

One of my other hobbies is arcade gaming, and having had a shock from both a CRT tube and from a high voltage cap on a board, I would advise just leaving well alone.

The easiest way to deal with them is to leave them attached to the microwave and get light iron/shred scrap price.

As suggested, they can also be mixed with electric motors.

They can also be mixed in with low grade boards or other kinds of copper and aluminum bearing scrap.

My yard won't take them. They even reject microwaves if they're not removed. I just trash them.
