How much for scrap car?

Postby messymessy » Sat Mar 12, 2011 9:23 pm

I've got an old car that I'm thinking about scrapping instead of repairing. It's a small four door sedan, still runs well enough to drive it to the junk yard, but it needs lots of work. Any guesses what I might get at the junkyard?

Thanks. I've got a stanza. It's bound to be real close to that amount.

I heard a rule that even if it runs its worth $500. People around here are getting $300 a car and thats the car dead in water being towed off your lawn!

Do you research, many scrap car buyers prices vary in price! I myself was offered $50-$300 for my junk car (which I kept) (prices included towing)

Last year, somebody with a similar car told me that they could get $200 or $300 if it ran. If I can get $500, it's gone. Sounds like I should start calling around.

Put a free ad in the local classifieds for a week or two as a "mechanics special" or advert on Craigslist. Sometimes that works faster than going thru the trouble of "prepping" the car for the junkyard.

I picked up a 90 accord the other day for 300 with a bad head, it was running hot. sold it 3 days later for 500 using craigslist.

small cars are saleing good, and will only get better as gas goes up.

Any car that runs should be worth at least $500 on Craigslist I would say. There are a lot of people looking for cheap transportation these days.

Not to mention Cash for Clunkers wiped out a good portion of the "cheapie" cars from the roads.
