My scrap yard gives out half dollars in change also. I have'nt seen a silver half yet. My guess is that they pull any silver that they come across. I find it odd that you can take copper into the scrap yard and get paid back in copper (if you're lucky) with a few copper cents. I would think If the yard kept silver halves they would also keep any pre 1982 cents.

I did some contract work for the prez of the largest metal recyclers in my state. When I explained to him how I was hoarding brass cents, he looked at me as if I had lost my mind.

I picked up about 100 lbs. of lead and about 50 lbs. of copper sheet metal two weeks ago for free. Haven't sold it yet. I am hoarding it just like the brass pennies for a rainy day.

This may be too general in nature but what i've scrapped over the last 3 weeks totals over $3200.00.
Up until the end of May J was scrapping in an SUV and had very little in the way of tool. That said, boy how things have changed!!!

Went and bought a 1997 f150 and cordless powertools. I now net 3 times per week of what I was earning, work less hours, work smarted, and will soon have my $4000.00 investment paid in full. I'm lucky becauseI live in a great aera for scrapping on a small scale.

bottom line .............I scrapped my old way of doing things!!!

oh yea, today I brought in 288lbs of stainless kithcen items @ 0.00 per lb

I just noticed today my yard is buying cardboard for .05/lb

Now I can sell the cans and the box. If they would just buy used beer I'd be in good shape.

Some yards won't take chicken wire or chain link fencing either, that kind of springy/wiry stuff gets stuck in shears, shredders, balers, etc, and they figure it isn't worth the hassle.
