I loaded up all of my scrap metal yesterday and took it in today after work.

480 lb tin/steel
52 lb alum. cans
22 lb alum. ECW
58 lb cast alum.
49 lb sheet alum.
3 lb mixed brass
9 lb "irony" brass
25 lb lead weights

I got a total of $113.95 for everything. I also cashed in $25.87 in metal detecting coins at the Coinstar machine, does that count as recycling? :?

63 lbs. tin @ .065lb - $9.67
20.2 lbs lead @ .10lb - $2.02
3.0 lbs #3 ins copper wire @ .10lb $ 0.48

Total $12.17.... not bad for stuff in the garage making a mess

On another scrap metal site I saw some people are scrapping carpet pad. A guy was getting .07 - .10 a pound. I looked around me and found a place that will take it for .03 a pound. I figure I would need more than a truck full of it to make it worth it. My wife would just love me stock piling carped pad untill I have enough! :lol:

rock bottom prices..... last time steel was .12 now .08 but the old lady said 'clean up the yard'.

180 steel==.08
21 # of a 'grill'== dirty al .025
111 lbs.... prepared steel..... ie cast iron,,, rotors, and an umbrella stand. .011

Just called my scrapyard to check what they're paying for what they call shredder iron(things that aren't 100% metal, bicycles etc.) They told me $.04/lb. They usually pay anywhere from .07 - .09/lb.
