Today in San Antonio

alum cans 4lbs @ $0.35 = $1.40
scrap iron 220lbs @ $0.08 = $17.60
Insulated copper wire 5lbs @ $0.60 = $3.00

Why are my copper prices so much lower than everyone else? Do I look that much like a tenderfoot when I go in the place?

I have been screwed, too. Then I learned to ALWAYS know exactly what they are going to pay before you let them unload your vehicle. If it's too low, you can still drive away.

128 bucks

I had a box of silverplate too (not shown) Got clean brass 1.47/lb. I paid $25 for it at an estate sale and sold it for $78 at the scrap yard.

I tried to sell the silver plate as is but couldn't give it away.

Recycled joke.

3.4l, v-6. I can easily haul a ton. 5 speed manual. 22 mpg, an obvious chick magnet.

145K mi with probably at least 155K to go before I scrap it.

Today's trip to the scrap yard:
21lb cans @ 0.40 = $8.40
114lb irony cast @ 0.15 = $17.10
2lb #2 copper @ 2.80 = $5.60
9lb sheet copper @ 2.65 = $23.85
120lb tin & .065 = $7.80

$62.75 in free money to add to the silver stack.

went saturday and scraped
111lbs #2 copper @$2.90lb=321.95
33lbs yell. brass @$1.85lb=61.05
total of $383.00

Im not sure how you guys scrapyard works but mine work like this you go in scale or wharehouse line while still in your vehicle they check your id ask questions make you sign paper depending on what you are scraping you go weigh your metal then they scan your id take your pic you get a ticket ,take that ticket to the "cashier" she gives you a receipt take that receipt to the free standing atm machine scan receipt and get your cash. And no one that works there tell you the process you just figure it out over time.

Is there not to many steps in this process?

For steel, I drive over the scale, down into the yard to empty out, back over the scale, park somewhere out of the way, and collect cash (they'll make a copy of the receipt if you want one) from the scale house / cashier. For everything else, I back up to a garage door, unload and help weigh as they enter everything into an Excel sheet and send it to the scale house / cashier, move the vehicle out of the way, and collect the cash / receipt. They use your initials to send the receipt to the scale house, but that's it. There are signs saying ID is required for payments over $50 or $100 (don't remember which) but they have never asked me for one. If you come in with suspicious items I'm sure it would be a different story though.
