NotABigDeal wrote:WAY too many joints to cut. The price difference here is only 15ยข between #1 and #2. Plus around here, in order to be considered #1, it must be damn near new looking. There was some #1, but since we were over 1000lbs with the #2, it paid more than having less than 100lbs of #1. We made out better this way. You can only see one maybe two #1 pieces in the picture according to the yard. And I'm not bad mouthing the yard, the are good guys.

I think what they are considering #1 copper is what is referred to as "bare bright" copper around here. It pays a little better than #1. Regardless, they paid you well for #2 copper.

Nice haul by the way.

My office at work is closing and everybody has to move to another location.
But, the warehouse is getting rid of a bunch of racks and shelves and we will be getting rid of some old filing cabinets too.
I've been bringing stuff home for the last few days and putting it on my trailer. Today the trailer was full so I made a trip to the yard.

1540lbs steel/tin = $123.20 (from work)
133lbs irony cast aluminum = $19.95 (from work)
19lbs aluminum cans = $8.55 (from home)

Today in So. AZ
32 lbs yellow brass $1.65 pound (price down .10 from Oct)
80 lbs #2 ins wire $1.00 a pound (price same as Oct)

Total $132.80

1st time they gave me a hard time with my Christmas light wire, said to turn it in as is, with the light bulbs on for .20 a pound. I had about 10 pounds of wire from the christmas lights bulbs cut off. They still payed me #2 ins for them.

Doing a reset at work. Took home about 300lbs in metal racks and old shelves. Tomorrow they are taking down a metal rack that was used for panty hose and socks. They will be there 3 days and I am going to cash in my haul Thursday nothing after they are done.

My work is still trashing file cabinets & stuff, I got my buddy (he is unemployed) to help me load up the trailer twice this week and I split the proceeds with him.

1st load was $172
2nd load was $164

I think they are just about done, I wish I had gotten that load of 8ft tall chain-link fence they tossed out but I didn't get there in time.

Had a hot water heater go out and we are building a detached garage with aluminum wrapped trim and soffits. Also took in what aluminum cans I had on hand.

This was today in central Missouri.

180 lbs "sheet iron" @ $190/ton =$17.33
44 lbs "Alum Sheet - Clean" @ $0.53/lb =$23.32
14 lbs "Aluminum Cans" @ $0.65/lb = $9.10
1 dime found where you unload the cans. = $0.10
Total = $49.85

Girls each get about $25.

Here's one a bit outside the box - as a bartender we used to collect all the Marlboro cigarette boxes leftover after the pub closed, cut out the "miles" from the boxes, and order all sorts of cool free stuff. Not sure if that's scrapping but was a great way to get closet-fulls of marketing materials on the cheap!

199 lbs heavy iron, $19.00

I always feel like I just robbed a bank when I pull out of that place
