Hi Hobo Finds can you tell me if the prices you are getting on non-metal items like glass and plastic are real market prices or if there is a subsidy in Arizona to encourage recycling? I'm trying to figure out why there are no buyers for those commodities in my area.

No subsity. The city takes all these items in the Recyling Bin that they charge you $16.50 a month for! These people buy it! I think that we are just close enough to Cali to make it worth it for them to do. They are paying .80 for alum cans. Another place pays .40 fpr #1 plastic and .85 - .90 for cans. I have not gone there yet! I thought in the begining that they were maybe doing some kind of deposit scam but we now have about 4 yards buying plastic and one glass. Other items are circut boards, cardboard and office paper. I still need to turn in those items!

I haven't looked real hard, but no one around me buys glass or plastic in small quantities either.

certain regions pay for plastic and glass and others don't. the best I can do here is donate my plastic and glass to a recycling center run by the State.

dhmmm, might have been me that was dropping off cb, as I had someone ask me, about it. I do not know if she is buying from the general public or not. there is a furniture store that she allows them a place to get rid of it. I do not think she pays them.
yes I am getting paid, but then, I have several 'deals' with her. like she will take the occasional pallet I find.
part of the deal with the cb is that, I was taking it to sa on miracle mile. but I would have to stockpile at home for 2 weeks to make up a 700 lb load. each day I would turn in glass, I would have to move my cb around in the truck. finally her son just said...enough foolishness, we will pay you.

I am also about the only one that can bring in broken glass. she got f### over too many times by folks putting in oddball glass. or not having it all brown, green , clear etc. it sure makes for a better load though. ie, turned in 1600+ lbs of glass the other day, and still had room for plastic on top.

Just made my second trip ever to the recycler:

99lbs tin @ .03 = 2.97
50lbs prepared steel @ .06 = 3.00
16lbs brass @ 1.8 = 28.8
5lbs copper @ 2.6 = 13
1lb high rec gold @ 4 = 4
3lbs mid rec boards @ 1 = 3
3lbs al cans @ .55 = 1.65
other misc cords, breakage, aluminum, etc.

Total = $73.66
