SATURDAY & SUNDAY MORNING HUNT FOR GOLD & SILVER

heading out now to hopefully find some goodies!

ever since I was a child I have been garage/estate saleing whenever opportunity presented itself.

Always I try and go in the mornings on saturday and sunday.

I like to buy gold and silver, which I find quite a bit for $0.25 and up.

I wanted to start a thread based on scrapping precious metals, and related to your finds, and what you paid for what you got weights and such to the best of your ability, whether you scored some deals, or whether you didn't find anything, or even got some bogus metal. be as thourough as possible. I will post finds whenever I can, and feel free to do the same. Peace.

I think this is a great thread idea....could be slow this time of year for a few members but still a very cool thread.

No garage sales here, this time of year. It's snowing again today.
Thru till the middle of this summer, I was just looking for coins, mostly 90%.
Then my wife was putting on some earing, and reminding me where We got 'em, on vacation.
When i looked at those, I knew they were sterling, and that put the bug in my head.
I found these at garage sales for less that a buck apiece. [ I put in the penny for size recognition.]

looks like about a 1/2 oz. of sterling for $4.00 or less isn't too bad. I get about $30.00/ozt. for scrap sterling here in Saint Louis. You can't beat free money!

Went to an auction today. They had a few coins on there, which is why I went. All the silver dollars went for 32 or above and everthing else went for well above spot. I came home without anything, but it was still worth a shot. It's the few awesome scores that make it all worth while.

it is wednesday, and i saw a garage sale so I stopped, I found a 14k necklace and matching bracelet for $100.00.....and 3 sterling rings for $10.00..........................the necklace and bracelet weigh 10.6 grams, which today is worth $298.00 to my scrapper, and the 3 rings are worth about $15.00 to my scrapper........I also bought a set of 1/4 inch craftsman sockets for $1.00, a pocket sized US constitution for $1.00, and a nice folding table for $12.00, very happy with how the day is shaping up so far.!!!

I post at another forum and this is my post for the absolute best find ever at a yard sale. :o
http://www.treasurenet.com/forums/garage-sale-finds/283712-what-weighs-234-pounds-only-cost-me-40-a.html

I bought 234 lbs of watches and jewelry. I am still looking at every single piece and there are thousands. I think I have about 5 lbs left to look at. These are the tiny things that setteled to the bottom of the bin.

I bought this from a "cash for gold" company that went out of business. These were the discards and   go follow the link it gets interesting.

Yes, and several pounds of old pocket watches. Some I know are GF (none are karat gold :( )
most have been damaged by the cashforgold company. The front has been twisted of bent off completly.

Also I found 6 Rolex watches, all fakes. ;)

Did the yard sale hunt today with pops.

Snagged a Jewelry box full of Avon and Sarah Crap for $5.........It did, however, have 4 nice little earrings marked 14K inside. :)
$5 investment = 1.38grams of 14K

Then headed down to the River for the Monthly riverside trade day. Turned loose of my Mossberg 12g 500 Pump + $200 for a New PK380 pistol.

Guy wanted $375.....which is about right for a new one off gunbroker.....But add in transfer fees and shipping.

I got a trade value of $175 for Mossberg......owned that gun for 4 days....purchased at $150 :)
