I've dug around the forum a bit and could not find a thread on what is a common percentage paid on clean copper. Sorry if I missed it
I bought about 150 pounds of copper from my uncle last year at spot. In return, It was all clean (no insulation or oxidation or anything). With the intention of buying a furnace and making 1 pound and 1 kilo bars. Anm I paying too much or does it matter? Thanks for any help. :)

Spot price as in what you seen on Coinflation for copper?

I would buy it at the scrap yard price.

Yea, typically I would look up an online spot price and pay him that. What is the difference between online spot and scrapyard spot??

Most scrapyards post their "clean" or "bright" prices. With spot at roughly $3.50 I was recently paid $2.60/lb for clean. You can run by a local scrapyard and ask what they are paying, may even be able to buy some clean from them if you like.

Yeah pay him what the highest yard in the area will pay and all should be set. I've been buying from friends recently as well. One of my friends is a lineman so after a job he goes and picks up the pieces laying around. As shiny as an 11 penny!!!

There was a good writeup here lately about what the spot price of copper is.

Using the above math, it's about 75% spot... Good idea on buying from them, thanks :)

Do you live close to Iowa? I'll sell you all the bare bright #1 copper at spot as you can afford. Better yet, I may even ship to you!

No kidding!

I used to live in Davenport :) . Washington state now. I get bright copper cut into 2" pieces from my uncle at spot. My bar pouring is on hold. There's a bit to it, crucibles are 34 plus shipping, and only last for about 20 pours :( , As we speak, I've got a thousand dollar furnace and can't do a thing with it..... If/when things change I'll let you know, thanks for reaching out!
