Melting copper pennies is a no-no.

The best place to melt pennies is on the kitchen stove of the local police station.

Just kidding young man.......melting pennies is illegal and best left to the bad guys. ;)
This space for rent. :)

He mentioned in another post that he is 12 years old. Perhaps he doesn't know it is illegal to melt US Cu cents.

Wow, maybe you should work on your grammar first.

There are some very intelligent people on the forum who type worse than this young man does. He's got his head in the right place, compared to most other 12-year-olds I know. Cut him a break, maybe?

Exactly,
A perfect example is beauanderos. His writing is generally flawless.

Proper diction and grammar does not indicate overall mental fitness.
If I have the gift of prophesy, and know all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith, so as to move mountains but do not have love I am nothing. And if I give all my possessions to feed the poor, and if I surrender my body to be burned but do not have love it profits me nothing.

As everyone has said man, it is illegal to deface currency, that includes melting pennies. Just hang on to all your 81 and priors ;)

As far as scrap goes... your not going to build a fire in your back yard and melt it into nice bars. If you want to get it melted into bars you would have to find a refiner, and that can be expensive and require minimums around 1 ton.

SO! save the pennies and take the scrap to your local yard.
