If it helps pewter will always be marked pewter unless its fairly old (in which you shouldnt be scrapping it!)

Also you should be able to bend it with your hands because the metal is so soft. You can not do this with Sterling, silver plate.

After no luck I am leaning on silver plated copper. It's a fairly large pitcher. But once I looked at it better on it's inside, I can see where it was used as storage for something that wore away the plating in spots. It looks rusty in spots(orangish/brown) yet doesn't stick to my LARGE magnet.

Any thoughts, now??
