Sorry if this is off topic, but Sterling disassembled this TUBE TV with VCR this morning. It took him about one minute and he did it about 50 yards away from the TV. Insuring he would not be injured by fumes, flying glass or a capacitor shock. After all he's only 10 years old and this method of disassembly required adult supervision.

Kind of inefficient. It's costs about 2 bucks to do. But damn fun.

Tools required:

Ear protection
10 rounds of 7.62x39
1 ea Norinco AK-47

You had me going there for a second of two! I though "well, if Sterling can disassemble one that fast, I should be able too!"

So, seriously, what can I expect to scrap out of a flat screen TV? Especially one as big as this one?

Nope, it's an RCA flat screen TV, not working.

It is offered free on CraigsList to anyone who will haul it away. In fact, I just discovered the "Free stuff" section of Craigslist today. Old A/C window units, TV's, washing machines, dishwashers..... You just need to get there before the other scrapers do.

I am becoming obsessed with copper scrap!!!

Okay, I remembered TV's coming up in prior posts and have gone back and studied up a little.

Both these threads deal with CRT's and old vacuum tubes. Is there enough difference with a flat screen TV to fool with?????

Dude. Just take the damn thing apart. Hit it with an axe. Lay it in the driveway, put a piece of plywood on it and run over it with your truck!

Let's see what's in it.

Go outside and do it now!

Maybe you can educate us.

There must be something good in there. You see enough people offering to haul old flat screens away. I always assumed they were trying to fix them.

That's because many times the fix is simple and cheap or free. Even if they can't be repaired, one can usually get $100 or more worth of parts out of one to stock an online store - unless the unit is completely destroyed.

Sheik,

Don't shoot at it, don't squash it with your truck.

You can sell the parts for 100 bucks!
