Large inserts good for knife sharpening when SHTF Trade

I'm curious about this too. I have 30 - 35 pounds of scrap carbide cutters and inserts at the shop.

I'm paying around $10 a pound for CLEAN carbide inserts and drill bits. You need to be sure what you have is real carbide. Just because its yellow on the tip doesn't mean it's carbide. It could just be coated. I'll post some pictures in the morning of some different types. Most machine shops will use carbide... they also use tool steel. The difference in price between carbide and tool steel... Around $9.70 cents.

I go through drill bits fairly regularly through my property inspection job because I often have to install/change locks which many times involves "breaking in" by drilling out the old one to let myself in. I try to use cobalt bits because they hold up the best drilling into steel - is there a re-sale value for these like there is with the carbide?

I have accumulated some carbide over the years in my trade (approx 200 lbs I recon as I cannot pick up the bucket without throwing a hernia), having had to moonlight and provide my own tooling for various machining projects i was investigating the possibility of recouping some of the large amount of pennies i have had to spend buying this expensive tooling. Anyone have any suggestions?
