VCR's, DVD players, stereos

I was just looking over the price list for a local E-waste buyer and noticed that they will pay $.05 per pound for stereos, VCR's, DVD players and similar electronic equipment.

Couldn't I just throw this stuff in the shred pile and and take it to my local junkyard?

By me you can. The thing that would be great is if they took TV's and monitors at that price, I wouldn't even break them down...

After you watch this,
you'll want to break them down for the goodies inside.

Most yards won't take TVs whole - I break down the TV for the copper-bearing thing in the center and the wires, and throw the random steel into my steel bin, the rest goes in the garbage. The yard I go to doesn't count TV circuit boards as computer scrap because apparently they are lower quality than actual computer boards - they go in the "steel" pile as well.

This place pays for $3 or $4 for LCD monitors, but charges to take TV's.
