Steel is going up!

Just called in for January prices. Steel is expected to jump anywhere from $25.00 to $60.00 per ton.

And yes, I was told this jump will include the shreadables as well.

A price jump that big in January is odd to say the least.

I think it may have something to do with an chinese metal tariff taking effect this month. I may be mistaken.

Hey Silversaddle, are all metals looking to jump, or just steel?

I now work in the steel industry (manufacturing / iron mining / finishing). Dunno if price jumps are good are bad for us yet. I'm guessing not so good, because our december sales spiked ahead of this news.

I have a brother in law who worked at Bethlehm Steel for 20+ years then the steel trade died. I often wonder why don't we start up the old steel mills and re-process the scrap steel that we send to China and other places.

Strict EPA regulations and expensive union labor?

Yep, the EPA is one of the biggest, if not the biggest, business killers in the country. They need to be disbanded and replaced with people who actually use common sense.

According to an article in my local newspaper, they are paying up to $240/ton in northern Georgia.

I know where some old appliances were illegally dumped. Maybe I should get them and sell them to the scrapyard.

I would be on that in a New York minute. Should be able to get plenty of copper out of them also.

Oh that's right this all going to China, where they still build things.
