Is there any value in cell phone and laptop batteries and where do you take them?

Not sure what "taped" means.

I think to ship legally they have to be taped up with padding a certain way??? And you can't send them Priority due to the low temperatures of airplane cargo bays at high altitude can cause lithium batteries to explode and you can be held liable for any fire or damage if its traced back to you - lithium batteries generally must be shipped on the ground.

Do any local yards or battery supplies stores buy them in anybodies neighborhood?

Taped means there must be black electrcial tape covering up the terminals.

Check with your local scrap battery buyers. They often buy LI-ion's as well. I just sold some the other day and got $1.50 a pound.

Is there value? Yes, assmuming the are the li-ion or newer poly-li-ion types. The older NiCd and NiMH types have minimal value and in many parts of the country will cost you money to recycle properly.

Some buyers require them to be taped so the terminals don't contact each other and short out, which can cause a fire or explosion. They can also combust if crushed or punctured in transit. They should not and generally cannot be shipped by air.

Cell phone batteries are generally worth much less than laptop ones. Example: I pay $1.50 for the laptop ones and only $0.70/lb for the cell phone type.

Some local yards buy them, but don't expect great prices until there is more awareness of and competition for this material.

What about the small and round Li-ion batteries for watches, computers, etc? Any value in them?

I wish I could find a buyer for Lithium button or coin batteries. Should have some value...

Those are normal lithium batteries, not lithium-ion.

Normal lithium batteries have no value as scrap. Large quantities are treated as haz-mat and cost money to recycle properly. Small quantities are legal to throw in the trash in many states.

A very small percentage of watch batteries are the silver oxide type, which do have value as scrap.
