I have a several buddies that work at a large scale welding shop and they collect their welding tips for me. I buy them by the pound for just a little under #2 cu price. It saves them and their co-workers from having to haul in small amounts, and really all their looking for is a little beer money anyway. I've been doing this for a quite a while now. I've always looked at it like and investment, much like buying gold or silver. The local yard is just over $3.00 a pound now and that is better then I've seen in awhile. Just wanted to get some thoughts and opinions on selling now or not. I don't hear anyone on here holding on to bulk copper unless its in penny or bar form. I'm looking at them as a good investment. They don't talke up much space and the weight adds up pretty quick. What do you think?

Is it like a $200 pile or a $20000 pile? I keep back some stuff as a stach, right now I am keeping all my brass for next christmas.

I have about 300 lbs currently. I get more every two weeks or so and have them in a large barrel. I kinda would like to just keep buying an see what the price is in 22 years when I retire.

I have been selling scrap off and on since 1963. I have never seen it this high for this long ever. I would sell and use that money to buy more. Start looking for commercial brass items like large valves or foundry slugs, they add up fast and you can get them cheap sometimes. If you have a 55 gal drum to store those tips in, you will not be able to lift it when it is full without a forklift. Good luck.

Hard choice. Maybe sale it off and use the cash to buy silver?

I think I'm going to just keep an eye on the prices. I've been doing that for two years on my Aluminum cans. I've been getting an itch to sell them after they hit .68 cents last week here. I remember about three years ago getting .92 cents for cans and have been trying to hold out until at least .75 cents. Buying silver is not a bad idea. My plan is defiantly not to blow the money but to re-invest it.

That is what I do. Over the past couple of years I have turned my scrap sales into several hundred dollars face value of 90%
