In terms of recycling value, li-ion batteries are one of the better batteries found in a modern home. Because it's a newer material with a limited market, even a lot of specialized e-scrap dealers don't want them. They're difficult for traditional scrap yards to accumulate, so most don't deal with them.
The ones from power tools are lower value than the ones from laptops and cell phones. Some large buyers will reject shipments or pay less if you have the power tool type mixed in with the others.
Right now I am only paying $1.10/lb for them. However, I believe the price has or will go up this week or the next and I'll be able to start paying more.
