Philippine Coins/Bills

Postby BamaJoe » Sat Sep 11, 2010 7:21 pm

Just throwing this out to anyone who might be interesting. This fall the little island girl will be going home to see family for about a month due to a family illness there. As much as I love it there, I'm stuck here right now because of work and two kids in school. Anyway, if anyone is interested in Philippine coins or bills for novelty's sake or you just like coins/bills from different places I will have her bring back what you want. I'm not talking about silver or rare stuff - this will just be stuff in current circulation. No profit for me here, just thought I would throw out the offer. Only cost to you would be the actual worth what you want - current exchange rate around 45 pesos to $1, so for example a 50 peso bill would be a bit over $1.
If you are waiting for the "correction" to buy you need to realize that the increasing prices ARE the correction.

$100 Silver soon coming to a location near you.

Cool idea. How far back does the current coinage go, datewise? I would be interested in one coin of each value from each of these years: 2005, 2003, 1978, 1974...

EDIT: and I would certainly pay more than their exchange value.

BamaJoe ,

Your avatar makes me hungry.
If I have the gift of prophesy, and know all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith, so as to move mountains but do not have love I am nothing. And if I give all my possessions to feed the poor, and if I surrender my body to be burned but do not have love it profits me nothing.

the 1 Peso coins minted from 1995-2003 are made of Cupro-Nickel (75/35) and weigh about 6.1 grams with a melt value of $0.07 which is more than the melt value of US nickels and has a lesser face value. 1 Php = US$0.0235 (42.54 Php = US$ 1, as of 11/5/10) . 2004-onwards are made of stainless steel, but alot of cupro-nickel coins are still in circulation.

Those coins also are almost similar to the Sacajawea/Presidential dollar coins size wise. Buddy of mine always encounters 10 or so each week when he empties the coin hoppers at the arcade (Large Filipino presence near said arcade). Some do get past the coin acceptor.
