Asian or Arabic symbols, the word Olympia, what is this?

Postby OneBiteAtATime » Mon Aug 22, 2011 7:05 am

This thing is giving me mixed messages.... anyone seen it before?

Olympia obviously makes me think Greek, but the lettering isn't greek. Couldn't find it anywhere in the colnect coin catalogue. (Which if you haven't bookmarked yet, check this out - http://colnect.com/en/coins/countries

Anyone seen this monster before?

Looks Chinese to me. It could be one of their knockoffs to sell to collectors.

Perhaps this is a token used by Japanese or Chinese immigrants in the Seattle area some number of decades ago.

Japan has hosted the Olympics a few times in the past. The summer Olympics were held in Tokyo in 1964. Sapporo hosted the Winter Games in 1972. Winter games were also in Nagano in 1998, but your coin looks older than that.
