I cleaned some coins.

My son Franklin has some coin that were free and the only value is melt and we thought we would do the big no no and try some coin cleaner out. Looks like it works better on silver. Also Franklin said it smells like toilet bowl cleaner.

Not a bad result on all except that top row, middle piece (probably corroded?)

That one is a 1876 5 Pfennig.

If the coins have no value or just melt value and your son will like them more I say clean away. The way I see it is anything that gets kids into coins is worth it.
