Does anyone know anything about Mexican coins? My mother-in-law has some Mexican coins I was going through. I found a couple that sound like they're silver. She's has some 1971, 1972, and 1975 Un Peso. And a 1971 and 1972 Cinco Pesos. The cinch pesos also have writing around the edge. Any ideas as to content?

There is a sticky at the top of the page that gives a breakdown on silver content of Mexican coins, entitled appropriately "MEXICAN COINS".

Yeah I saw that up there. But these aren't on that list. But they sure sing like silver.

I had a similar question a day or two ago. That's why I asked in the sticky if the list was exhaustive, and if anyone knew of a 'coinflation-type' site for Mexican coins. Still haven't found the info I need.

The only one pesos made in the 70s were CuNi, same with five pesos. Last silver peso was 1967 and those were only 10% silver. Last silver five peso was 1959 and were 72% silver.

Interesting that the 1967 back to about 1958 (?) 1 peso coins still have the silver "ring" to them even though they actually have less silver content than a war nickel. Lots of bulk for little silver in most later date Mexican coins, but most can be purchased very close to spot since they're common in most cases.

I noticed that some of them in the late 50s actually have the purity on the reverse, along with their weight.

I have 2 20 nuevo peso coins minted in 2000. I can't find them on currency debasement or numismaster. CuNi or stainless steel center, right?
