I thought it was spanish, the sheild looks spanish. I don't recognize the monarch. Isabel was much fatter and rounder of the face.

Dude I'M STUCK.

Agressive Metal or Country?

Ya, I had thought it was spanish too, but looking up old versions of 'dos pesetas' led to more confusion...

It appears to be the spanish shield, but all other versions of this coin have a pillar/column on either side,

while this one has pulled back curtains and branches of some sort...Im getting nowhere haha

It was given to me by a relative over in Argentina, but Im relatively certain it isn't Argentinian...Its been bugging me for a few days now haha

Broke out the cartographers magnifier...and found nothing in the stars...

I did however find what looks to be 3 fleur-de-lis in the center of the shield...this thing is starting to annoy me, damn great aunt should have told me what it was when she gave it to me :( lol

This is going to be a good thread.

Uthminsta likes this stuff too.

Maybe it's some kind of medal or token? No date? It's looks like a liberty head.

Maybe you have a treasure.

I wish we you go back and put 'LADY LIBERTY' on our coins or an animal or something else.

We are just like everyone else, worshiping our monarchs.

What would George Washington think about his face on a coin? He knew he was not Caesar.

Maybe this is a symptom of our problem.

OK off topic. I'm sorry

The Standing Liberty Quarter is my absolute favorite coin! The reverse especially...The obverse of the walking liberty half also stands out (probably because its on the ASE also lol)

Definitely Spanish with the coat of arms, but it is not a coin of the realm which would have ESPANIA on the legend. My guess is that it is an old trade token circa 1880 or so.

I do know that the Spanish peseta became a monetary unit in 1868. SILVER peseta coins were abandoned in 1933, just before the Spanish Civil War of the '30s. Since this coin is SILVER, and it looks quite old, I'd think it was minted in the 19th century. 19th century 5 peseta coins were SILVER dollar sized coins. Is this coin about the size of a half dollar, or smaller?

Where and what I don't know, but I'm still researching; perhaps I find something later.

It was made sometime between 1869 and 1910, I know that much. Silver pesetas were only made during that time.

Been hunting this one for about 2 hours.

First Thought: I'm wondering if this was minted under the short-lived first First Spanish Republic (1873-1874).

Second Thought: In this coat of arms there is no Pomegranate - Coat of arms from the Kingdom of Granada. You see it at the bottom of the 4 quarters of most Spanish Coats. Something different here.

Country - Are you sure this isn't Hispania? Sure looks greek. But all this research is greek to me so I'm gonna give it up for the night.... hope someone figures this one out for sure.... my head hurts.
