Sacajawea and Presidential dollar varieties?

Postby uthminsta » Thu Jan 19, 2012 6:40 pm

I bought a bunch of the presidential dollars today, and over 60% of them were actually Sacajawea dollars. 2000P Sacajaweas to be specific. I would like to know if there are any "valuable" varieties or errors I could search for on these before I take them all back or spend them around town. Probably not, but... anyway... anyone got any insights?

heard a person pulled a sacajawea 2011 out of a presidental roll that was an error coin. no printing on the rim. Makes me want to start searching them.

That was in numisnews a couple of years ago.
I've never seen them released, but the direct ship program got me to put a couple of thousand into circulation.

I did a web search, and couldn't find anything to look for:
- Mule error with obverse of a state quarter. No, I think I would notice that.
- Experimental rinse to prevent spotting. I don't think I would be able to prove that at this point.

Anything else? If not, then oh well. Into circulation they go.

The 2011 was new. I think I read it on coin talk. The person sent it in and had it graded. It was like 4 to 6 weeks ago. The first 2011 known to be found.

I spent a bunch of them last weekend. After a day out with the family, on the way home we stopped at the full-serve gas station (who else still has one of those?) and said fill it up. He started it up, and meanwhile I was clinking the coins in my hand, so the guy said, "Are those the gold dollars? My boss doesn't want us to take them." I was shocked. But realizing it wasn't his choice, and he was pumping gas out in the freezing weather all night, I didn't bother arguing with him. Just said, "well then stop and I will pay for what you have pumped so far. I'll talk to your manager."
