If the mint.....

Released a .999 1 ounce copper coin, would you buy it? What do you think the design/going rates would be if they released it tomorrow?

I think they should do a wheat design, kind of like what they did with the st gaudens gold pieces. Do an old throwback design. I would change the front however (none of the us bullion coins hold a president design). Something simple yet something that embodies American spirit.

Sell for appx. 30-50 cents each

Just for fun.

The problem is that the Mint would charge $10.

Exactly.

Nice idea, but 50 cent items are not in the Mint's repertoire.

Interesting to ponder what denomination they would place on a one ounce copper coin...? Copper dollar?

Silver eagles have the 1 dollar, so I wouldn't say that. Maybe 10-25 cents?

How about a Seated Liberty design and give it a domination of 20 cents. Being copper colored I don't think too many people would mistake it for a quarter. Also use the same specs as the old twenty cent coin.

I would like to see the Indian Head design on a 1 oz. copper coin and keep it at 1 cent. But if they charge $15 for it I'll pass.

How on earth would anybody, let alone something as inefficient as a government entity, produce a 1 oz copper round and sell it for 30 cents? The spot price of copper is over 25 cents an ounce, and it takes a lot of energy, equipment, and labor to get it from scrap or COMEX cathodes into a shiny little round...

These are all 1 oz with some of the above mentioned designs...
