Cleaned 1923s penny

Postby creshka46 » Sun Jan 22, 2012 1:11 am

Hey all,

I recently came across a 1923s penny. It's in at least good condition and it's nice and shiny but it's totally cleaned. So I'm wondering, does the cleaning instantly put its value down to 3-4 cents, or would it still be worth maybe a buck or more?

Yes, the cleaning does lower its value. With its low mintage however I wouldn't throw it in the junk copper. It is still probably worth more than 3 or 4 cents. I would put it in my album and fill that hole with it until a better coin comes along.
