So if any of you saw it in the nickels forum, I posted a buy that I made off of ebay. The coins arrived yesterday and I got a chance to look closely at them. I found two rotated die buffalo nickels in the lot. The link to pictures is below. (BTW, can anyone tell me how to embed pics right into the forum?).

So I have a couple questions. Firstly, the one on the right is just a typical common date 1936 with about 30 degrees rotation. Is this worth anything? Secondly, the one on the left is a 1919-D which is a fairly valuable coin in its own right. Plus the rotation is more severe, like 45 degrees. However, it also has that big chip out of the edge as well as the crack running down the indian's face. My questions concerning this are:
1.) The chip on the edge is post mint damage, correct?
2.) What caused the crack running down the front, is that pmd?
3.) At the top of the crack there is a bit of a depression, I've heard of depressions getting formed when grease gets caught in the die, is that what cause this?
4.) Any idea of what this coin is worth?

Right click on the photo that you want to share and copy address then click the Img button and paste in the middle of that of what you copied . Also if you click the quote of what I just post you can see what I did.

I know about rotated dies, but not about their value. Or better yet, perhaps I should say they ARE worth something, but buyers of errors are sometimes hard to find. Maybe HENRYSMEDFORD's error-expert friend can answer those questions.

Thanks for helping out Joe. I decided to research a little more myself and emailed a few guys I found that seemed to be big names in the error coin world. I just got a response back from Fred Weinberg (below) and he really helped me out. It looks like this is going to the 'Bay! (unless anyone here is interested)

Thanks for your email and scans.

The 1936 Buffalo nickel, although slightly rotated on the
reverse, is within Mint tolerance of 30 degrees; I don't consider
it a mint error RR, but you can try to sell it on Ebay, where other
pieces similar to yours are listed, but rarely sell.

As far as the 1919-D - it's a nice Rot. Rev., and has what's called
a 'lamination' on the obverse - due to improper metal mixture of
the blank before it is struck.

However, it also has a very bad Rim Cut that kills it for the RR, in
my view, and probably wipes out most of the good value for the
Date/minmark.

If you want to sell it, Ebay would be your only venue for such a
damaged coin, scarce mm or not, with this rotation.........I can't
even begin to give an estimate of value - in this condition, it's one
of those 'what a willing buyer and a willing seller will pay' type of
coins - I'd just put it up on Ebay, and let it go for whatever the bidders
or the market bears - again, with such a deep bad rim cut, normal
Buff collectors, and even Rot.Rev. error collects are not going to
pay much for such a coin, imo....

If it helps or gives you any hope, I had (2) Buffalo's like 1934 If I recall. Both had like a 45 degree rotation on them in XF condition. I sold them both in October on ebay for $15.99 a piece. I had to relist them a couple times, but it was free to relist anyways. Not winning the lottery, but $32 for a couple of Buffalo's that I got for less than $2, will buy my an OZ of silver.

I was pleasantly surprised to see that someone else has similar error-esque specimen. Very nice to bring closure to this suspected error piece of mine. Here's a crude photo of the one I have, it's a 1925-D interestingly enough.

It'd be really nice if I could sell this on eBay for a decent premium and use the extra money to intake more coin boxes. :mrgreen:
