Wheat Cent Storage

I would like to begin an overhaul of my coin collection because I am displeased with my current ineffectual methods of organization. To begin, the most plentiful type of numismatic coin I possess is the wheat cent (to no surprise), and I would like to get some input in regards to the organizational practices of hoarders/collectors here. I'm not sure what numismatic variables call for cardboard 2x2s, plastic rolls from coin equipment suppliers, bank coin wrappers, loose plastic bags, mint bags, etc.

What do you do for common date Wheaties? Do you separate common date Wheaties of the 40s and/or 50s from the older ones? If so, what's the cutoff date? What constitutes the use of a 2x2 or specialized roll from coin suppliers? Do you organize based on mintmarks? Are there any maintenance risks of having Wheat cents in certain organizational mediums (risks being oxidation, corrosion, coins banging up against one another, etc.)?

You don't have to answer all of the above questions, as long as you communicate your own methods of organization in a fashion that you find acceptable. Thanks to all of you.

I hold mine in empty 2 lb planters cashew jars. If they are good enough for my cashews, they are good enough for my wheaties. They are water tight. I don't roll them, but do have some rolls in the containers. Been storing some of the wheaties for 10 years in these containers.

There is no such as a common wheat. We tube all of are coins by date and mint marks and then roll. Who would think that for us it is harder to find a 1954 plain wheat than an IH see http://realcent.org/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=5364&hilit=+1954.Also who would have thought it was that you could find a full roll of 35S,and 36-S before the 1954 see http://realcent.org/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=20290&hilit=+full We buy are coin tubes here http://realcent.org/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=16670&hilit=+tubes#p157803. So we tube all are pre 1959 US cent all S mints LMC and Canadian small cents 1920-date all Canadian 5 cents 1922- date an d all odd stuff and all AU cent by date. Also we have a set of the widow remarks with them see http://realcent.org/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=16670&hilit=+tubes#p157803. The nice part of having them tubed if you want to help out with someone need a coin you can find it.

I keep mine in coin tubes, seperated by year and mint mark. I prefer the Numis square tubes.

I have a few hundred that are BU from rolls I purchased as a kid. I keep those in Kointains, only because they're not quite as expensive as hard coin holders.

Rare, or more expensive wheaties, I place them in 2-1/2 x 3-1/4 plastic coin holders.

I've never been a big fan of the cardboard flips.

All my wheats are seperated by date and mint and placed in sqr tubes. The canadian get seperated by copper content dates: '82-'96; '80-'81; '78-'79; pre'78 Queen; and the kings. When they get full, I roll them and stash them. I keep the BUs seperate but not by date.
