Here is a nice looking coin I got today, 1984-O Morgan. Is this MS60?

It has too much wear for that. I would guess ef45 because I do not see breast feathers on the reverse.

I agree EF45 at best. There are NO breast feathers at all.

-This coin has zero wear. The poorly defined areas at center are a result of excessive die spacing thus given a shallow or weak strike. This is pretty common for the New Orleans morgans of this year as examples are more often struck poorly than strongly.
-The luster is unbroken so the coin is a technical UNC and would grade as such at PCGS or NGC. I put it at a high MS61-average MS62 and value it at $32-$35 FMV.

Numismedia's chart shows this coin at XF40 = $33, AU50 = $35, and MS60 at $50.

Melt just now is $15.38 with Ag at $19.89.

$33.00-$15.38 = $17.62 its value over melt.
/2 = $8.81(split the value over).
+ melt at $15.38 = $24.19.

OR
$50-$15.38=$34.62
/2 = $17.31
+ $15.38 = $32.69




If this XF40 coin was included with a larger group of similar coins (to manage the postage cost), would a coin shop owner pay $24.19, so they could sell it for $33?

OR

If this MS60 coin was included with a larger group of similar coins (to manage the postage cost), would a coin shop owner pay $32.69, so they could sell it for $50?

That's what I hear MH. This would be for the raw morgies.

I got me a flatbed scanner for $1 at the last auction I went to. Haven't plugged it in yet to see if it works

Also to your question: Most likely a coin dealer won't pay you anything you would like for this coin. Your math makes no sense if the guy wants to continue to pay the light bill See my other response -> coin dealers need to PROFIT to stay in business, not just do math on the supposed retail price on something that they will likely not sell for eons and when they do have to WORK to do so.

This is a VERY common coin. I have similar ones I've bought as bullion a few times.

On here though or other venues you might get close to MS60 value or at least EF or higher. MS/AU morgans bring a decent premium on here.

I want to thank everyone for their advice and help. As time permits I will put up some lots of coins in the buy it now section. Today its back to the sprinkler problem. After spending $170 and 6 hours yesterday the anti-siphon parts are still leaking. I guess I'm not much of a plumber either.

Unfortunately FROM EXPERIENCE I know that "improved" doesn't necessarily mean "better at scanning coins".

I had a scanner that scanned coins really well (not as well as this one but well enough). I used it for years, even on slabs. Then it eventually broke down and I bought the "new and improved model" and it couldn't scan coins AT ALL.
