OK... I've been saving Bicentennial quarters and half dollars for a while. I've seen one person on C-list in my area wanting to trade Bi quarters for silver. It got me curious...

1) Is there any numismatic value to avg circulation bi quarters or bi half dollars?

2) Is there a reason or anything on why quarters would be of more value than the half dollars (or at least a higher mark up on a quarter vs. a half?)

there were tons of both minted but the quarters do seem a bit harder to find in rolls now. Buy 10 rolls af quarters and 10 rolls of halves from your bank and see what you get. I guarantee you will get at least a roll of Bicentennial halves but maybe only 2 or 3 bicentenial quarters. I think people just like the design of the quarter better too.

Not including proofs, there were 521 million clad bi-centennial halves and 1609 million clad bi-centennial quarters minted. They have no numismatic value. If someone is willing to give YOU a premium for any of these, I would give them all I had.

C-list guy, "Look at these quarters! They're dated 1776! This is the only time the US quarter changed from 1932 to 1998!"

Uninformed Silver Inheritor (USI), "Those must be worth a lot... could I get some of those old 1776 quarters for these regular quarters? They're all from 1964".

C-list guy, "Well, I normally wouldn't, but since you took the time to come meet me here, I'll give you two of these 1776's for each of your old quarters".

I save some of each, but I'm not above using them to buy something with if needed.

Way, way back in the late 70's myself and a freind went a little nutty trying to outdo each other with the amount of those we could accumulate. Mostly the quarters. After about 30 years of that nonsence he had a few thousand dollars worth. I had close to a thousand dollars worth of those things. Naturally all out of change. So we went to a coin show and tried to sell them. All the dealers just said NO THANKS. One dealer said he'd pay $0.24 each. Kind of the same thing as NO I guess.
Both of us ended up taking them to a bank and wondered how much interest we lost by not just putting our money a lousy savings account.

Circulated Bicentennial Quarters and Halves are only worth face value unless they are silver clad or errors.

I have seen aucitons of both quarters and halves on feebay for slight premiums, but the fees would eat out more than any money you could make off of the auction.

Minimal investment if you want to keep a few dazzling specimins of each, but send the rest down the line for true expenses.

I save every drummer boy I find and my Dad does as well. I used
to sell them on ebay back around 2001-2 and made a decent amount of money doing so. remember that was before all the fees and paypal
