What is your 2x2 style?

One thing as distinctive as every coin collector is how they utilize their 2x2 holders. Above is how I do it. The hinged part goes at the top, with staples along the other three sides. A seasoned dealer once told me never to staple too close to the coin since they can rust over time and affect the coin. Another tip, crunch down the rounded part of the staples with needle-nose pliers. It gives you more room in a stock box and eliminates unsightly protrusions against vinyl pages.

Labeling - for me, it's series and denom in upper left, date/MM upper right, condition lower right, and any imperfections or defects of note (cleaning, holes, scratches, etc) go in the lower left. On the reverse, along the top I put the date I acquired it and sometimes the price in the lower right.

I also like to "size-up" when housing by using a larger demon 2x2 than the coin. Nickels go in quarters holders, dimes and pennies go in nickel holders, etc. That way I can still see the edges.

I've seen some pretty creative and distinctive 2x2s at coin shows and LCSs over the years. Some sloppy ones too. :D What's your style/preference?

the bulk of my 2 x 2'd coins are my foreigns

i staple and fold exactly the same way you do - drives me crazy when i get coins someone has done another way !

of course i put in new 2x2's anyways

top left is country

top right is denomination

bottom left is date

bottom right is km #

for my us coins....

top left date

top right denomination

bottom right is grade

on the reverse i put month and year acquired and price paid

i code it so only i know - i use a ten letter word with unique letters and assign a number 0-9 to each

great idea for a thread - looking forward to other responses

Glad you brought this up aloneibreak.

I see these on the reverse of dealers' 2x2's all the time. What's the purpose?

for me its just to keep track of what i paid so i don't sell for less

with my code, if i overpaid or lost money, only i know ;)

dealers probably use them for inventory records as well

crunching down the staple is a great tip to save room. I will have to do this now on all my 2x2's :)

I started to staple the same way as you. I am thinking about just doing 2 now though, on an angle, one at each 'corner' on the side opposite of the fold.

Rather than crimping down the staples, there are now flat clinch staplers. I have used one of these for years.

Call me a rebel but for my collectable pennies and nickels, I use 1.5 x 1.5. I live on the edge.

Saving room while saving coins.

Keep stacking (2 square inches at a time if you have to).

I only use 2 staples, just angle them a little, then make sure they are flattened. You don't need 3. Never have had a coin pop out yet.
