It is a 1964-D Struck through Die Cap cent
Posted: Mon Jan 31, 2011 10:58 amFranklin found this to day. It is 1964-D the front looks like is was stamp to hard. The rim is also high and it is hard to read and the back is fine.

just make sure that it weighs 3.1 grams, if it weighs less it could have had acid dropped on it or something.

So, today being Monday, the coin shop that I usually frequent was not open. Instead, I dropped by a local jewelry store and asked if they had a gram scale on hand in order to weigh it for me. The jeweler took my coin, weighed it, and stated that my coin weighed 1.9 grams. Puzzled, I tried to find another comparable penny to weigh, yet all I had on hand were zinc pennies. Weighing the zinc proved its weight to be 16, which I assumed meant 1.6 grams. During dinner this evening, I had a "light-bulb" moment: Could her scale possibly have been measuring 'karat weight' ? Now it's time to have it weighed accurately, according to grams, again.

Probably, that's the way it works at some of these places.

Posted: Tue Feb 01, 2011 5:24 amIf the scales arnt wrong you may have an acid coin. Carry a unc. zinc and copper with you and have them weigh each before getting your 64 weighed.

Today at the coin shop it weighs 3.1 grams to it is real!
