Been intrigued with this variety for many years. Back when I searched Vegas casino slots to assemble solid date rolls, the large S showed up now and then so I started a roll of those as well. Got to 36 examples before the coin-op slots started disappearing. The unfinished roll bugged me enough that this weekend I cherrypicked the final four at one of our larger coin shows, including the nice XF specimen pictured above (with a normal-sized 41-S behind it).

What is unclear, is a rough mintage estimate or if there's extra value. A few dealers noted the variety and sold VF examples for about $15. But some dealers didn't make a distinction. I found two examples for less than 50 cents each. One thing I noticed is it took less time to complete a roll of 1950P nickels, so it's safe to assume the mintage is less than 9 million. Regardless, has anyone heard of premiums for these? I'm curious what an entire roll would go for, should I decide to sell it. Examples over XF are apparently hard to come by.

Here's a good article about them: https://www.cointalk.com/threads/variet ... 01.213511/
