A friend sent me some photos to see if these are worth anything. Who knows large cent varieties? Anything here?

The 1831 looks like the obv has been cleaned, still nice though, $15-$25 I'd say.

The 1834 would fare better if it weren't for that notch near the date. As is, $10-$20, just a vague guess, I'm nowhere near an expert on how much damage degrades a coin's value.

Would be curious about what varieties, if any, as well.

Thanks coindood. I told him I figured they were only $10 - $20 coins given the condition, but I said I would post them here to double check.

I really like large cents. They almost radiate vibes from 175+ years ago. The one you have in your hand may have a rotated reverse as these mintage years are notorious for that. Regardless, how did a coin (even one that's been cleaned or wiped) like this even survive all this time? It's pretty remarkable that any of these large cents from this era are fairly common and available for almost anyone on a budget.

Pretty impressive. Even more so, however, are those same coins that survived in Mint State after all these years. Large cents in the upper uncirculated grades command a huge premium price and, I guess, justifiably so.

Pick up a few at your neighborhood coin show. Should be able to get ones from the 1840s and 1850s in VG or so for $10 or so. Where else can you get such a bargain?
