U.S. Mint and Federal Reserve both confirm that the Fed is ordering new Kennedy half dollars in calendar year 2021 for general circulation.
Before this revelation, 2001 was the last year that the Federal Reserve was known to have ordered Kennedy half dollars for release into general circulation. Since, then, the Mint has sold half dollars struck at the Denver Mint and Philadelphia Mint as numismatic products at premiums above face value.

Maybe that explains why I found 7 2021-P halves in a bag from my local bank on 10-22-21. Coindood found a 2021-D half in circulation as well.

I got two 2021 halves from a bank on black Friday. In the past, I have seen 2015 and 2018.

So will they be listed as NIFC in coin books?

Also if this was due to the coin shortage wouldn't it be better to release s mint clad quarters they are also NIFC and you pay a premium to get them just like the half dollars, presidential dollars and innovation dollars coins. Makes more sense to get the quarters out there....

I hit up a few banks recently when I was able to cross the border. Got a bunch of 2021s mixed in with various rolls.
