Is it worth it to buy $500 or $1000 bills?

Is it worth it to buy $500 or $1000 bills?

I see they can be bought from different sources. Is it worth it to have them?

I toyed with the idea (pre-pandemic) and still might someday, but I started to think that while they're really great prestige pieces, unloading them wouldn't be as easy as PMs.

Saw a really nice graded $500 FRN at a coin show last year for about $2k and if I had brought that much $$ with me, I might have pulled the trigger.

Here's my thread on the topic:

I would love to have one. But couldn't justify having that much capital tied up in a note.

That is pretty much where I am at.

On another thread you asked about financing college expenses.

It sounds like you need to seriously cut back on your expenses and perhaps, lifestyle.

College and $1,000 bills don’t go together.
Former stock broker w/ ~20 yrs. at one company. Spoke with 100k+ people and traded a lot (long, short, options, margin, extended hours, etc.).

NOTE: ANY stocks I discuss, no matter how compelling, carry risk- often
substantial. If not prepared to buy it multiple times in modest amounts without going overboard (assuming nothing really wrong with the company), you need to learn more about the market and managing risk. Also, please research covered calls (options) and selling short as well.

Yep, those college bills are creeping toward me like the Black Death. :(

In the mid-90's large notes were still affordable. I bought a $1000 note (a real crisp AU) for, I think $1400 or maybe $1600. Last time I looked those were 4 grand.

I had it sandwiched between two plexi sheets in a currency display holder. It looked cool on the desk for a couple years. Probably sold it one lean winter.
