A Sad Day for Coin Collectors

I went to a branch of PNC Bank on Wednesday and was interested in getting some half dollars. I was VERY DISAPPOINTED to hear that they haven’t had coins or currency for about two months now! They confirmed that another PNC branch in this area has done the same thing.

They directed me to their ATM.

What are people with piggy banks supposed to do? What about older people who shun technology? What about us coin collectors?

My guess is that the corporate HQ will TRACK VERY CLOSELY how many people close accounts specifically because they don’t carry cash and coin. This is truly a very sad day.

Finally, think about what would happen if a bank robber went and asked them for all their money. Can you imagine a teller saying, “Sir, please feel free to come around on my side and take a look. I don’t even have a cash drawer anymore.”

P.S. PNC is located in 28 states plus Washington, D.C. I am not saying which of those states I am in or am visiting.

PNC is not on our side of the fence. They are the enemy in more ways than one. Regardless of where I live or travel, the chances of me opening an account with them are less than one one hundredth of a percent!
