The United States Mint announced today that 2010-dated one-ounce American Eagle Silver Proof Coins will be made available for sale on November 19. Orders for the popular numismatic coin can be placed starting at noon Eastern Time (ET) on that date. Order fulfillment will begin by December 1. The price of the coin will be $45.95 (one ounce of pure silver is approximately $22 in the world marketplace). A shipping and handling fee of $4.95 will be added to all domestic orders.

A bit more expensive than they used to be.

If that's true. I might buy 10-20 of them

I wonder if the mintage will be small because of the late announcement for delivery only in December? You are limited to buying 100 proof eagles from the mint according to the announcement.

Yeah I just spent some time surfing the mint's site and wondered pretty much the same thing. Does this coin have "key" potential? How long will it be retailed/available? How many people are going to buy these @ 40 something dollars each? How many are going to minted?

Time for some speculation!

I bought a bunch of the 08's, resold them for twice what I paid. The 1month-2 month mintage period. Might make it low mintage

About time. POd there wasn't any last year. IMO Yes, this will likely be a key year with short mintage.

"Although the demand for precious metal coins remains high, the increase in supply of planchets-coupled with lower demand for bullion orders in August and September-allowed the United States Mint to come off allocation and shift some capacity to produce numismatic versions of the one ounce American Eagle Silver Proof Coin. "

I think the key wording here is "shift some" planchets. Ummm if I were a betting man I'd throw down to get 100 units for my household.

I found another article which says that the mint could produce 200,000 proof silver eagles a month so depending on when they started (I assume the already have started) you could see 600,000 to 800,000 proof ASEs by the end of the year. This is also the normal range of mintages for post-2000 ASE proofs. It doesn't look to me like they will be key dates but you never know.
