Help on something I found

Postby gizmosinglee » Wed Sep 14, 2011 1:18 pm

I have been searching rolls of cents for copper, and I dont know much about errors or varietys. I found this interesting cent and was wondering if it is anything special. Sorry for the poor picture but hopefully it will be good enough.
thanks for any info.

Can't tell if the 8 is doubled or maybe something called a clogged die error if blocked out. Worth keeping and probably worth a few dollars.

My heart has skipped more times than I can count on things like that (I'm a hand sorter). I've found that if you tilt the coin toward you in the light, almost as if you're looking face-on at Honest Abe, the "doubling" starts to disappear. I've come to the conclusion that what I'm looking at in these cases is actually a reflection of the raised number's edge off the shiny flat surface surrounding it. This effect seems to show up a lot on the number 9.
