Searching Canadian coins

Postby hirbonzig » Sun Feb 27, 2011 3:39 pm

I might be planning a trip to the Calgary Stampede this year (if gas has'nt hit $5/gal. by July). If I do go I would like to try my hand at sorting thru some boxes or bags of Canadian coins while I'm up there. I know nothing about the banks in Canada, but I would think they're similar to US banks. I would love to look thru Canadian halves for silver. I know the Canadian government started to pull out pre '82 nickels, so I'm guessing I won't find many pure nickel nickels. Any tips on Canadian coin searching from the local experts would be appreciated.

on the contrary i'm finding about 20% per roll in pre 81 nickels. now i'm on the east coast and they don't have the big publis dumping machines at the malls or stores that they have out west, i work in alberta half the year and see these machines and they kill me a little each time i do. hope you get to see the stampede its a blast. your not gonna find too many silver halves i'm afraid, but good luck if you do. its too bad shipping is so expensive we could work something out.

your not going to find may halves period. But you never know. Good luck. I always seem to be passing through Calgary during the stampeed but unable to attend due to poor planning on my part. Happened 3 times in the last 7 years.
