When going through pre-82 nickels, is it worthwhile separating out the George V and George VI nickels? I'm not talking about good dates like 1925 and 1926, but just average circulated common date coins. Any idea how much I can expect to sell these coins for?

I believe it is.
Average circulated George V will fetch 40-50 cents each. Average circulated George VI around 20 cents each.
Cheers,

You can get 'em cheaper than that on eBay if you buy larger lots. eBay not usually being the cheapest, I bet you could find them cheaper elsewhere. They probably fetch more in Canada than in the US. If I ever saw any around for sale, I would try to buy them. I like them for some reason. Think I got a deal on some in a KSA a while back. Might have been in the 20-25 cent range for V's and the 10-15 cent range for the VI's. That kind of deal I would not pass up. I keep thinking if I find the right LCS around here, I might be able to snag some around that price. Or getting lucky on eBay. mtalbot_ca's prices above I have seen on some eBay auctions, but they are usually smaller lots. Get up to 50-100 coin lots and the price comes down from what I have seen. That's what it look like south of our only secure border (the one that does not need the security). In my experience anyway.

They are worth much more for collector value over bullion value. Check the George V tracking thread - those are VERY hard to find in the wild, while the George VI are just a bit tough.

So, let me ask this a different way. If I gave you a Geo. V nickel (average circulated, but no 1925's or 26's), how many Canadian nickels (pre '82) would you give me in exchange? Ditto for Geo. VI.
I would only be trading decent coins- no culls or ugly coins. Occasionally one could slip through the cracks, but this should be an uncommon occurrence. I would expect the same courtesy on your end. Also please specify if you are in Canada or US. I am in the US.

From Canada, I would do the following ratio, on clean and problem free coins (1971-1981):
Geo. V = 5 : 1 (over 10 lbs, so 2lbs of Geo. V)
Geo. VI = 1.5 : 1 (over 10 lbs, so 6.7lbs of Geo. VI)
Better ratio for larger qty.
Cheers,
