Pre 1960 penny & nickel tracking

Any Canadian coin before 1960 should have at least a little numismatic value. (In certain cases, more than a little). If you look at Canadian production numbers, they go way up once you hit the early 60's. As a mass opener of bank rolls, I discovered the pct of 1959 and older pulled was very low (and obviously still is) This thread is for both CAD and US members, but the CAD members should only be reporting nickels unless they cross the border and buy pennies. I was motivated to start this thread because I pulled FOUR king George pennies from American rolls last week and then pulled a George V 1935 penny and a 1923 George V nickel in the same day. So, put your PRE 1960 findings here and good luck to all

Amazing! Back a few years ago I searched over 630,000 nickels in Quebec (Canada), and found out that pre-1960 coins were at about 1:1000 and that King GV were at 1:100000. Congrats!

Continuing to pull older Canadian pennies out of American Bank rolls as I just pulled a 1947 and a 1951 King George. These were from LOOMIS rolls.

As a young kid I remember visiting relatives south of the border and many seemed to look down on Canadian coins of any denomination. That was a LONG TIME AGO.

I grew up a couple of hours 'south of the border' and it was very much frowned upon. People would often decline to take them if you paid with them or tried to give them in change. It was annoying when people snuck them into bank rolls. Now I prefer them to some American coins. I wish I knew something about coins back when I was working cash registers, other than pulling wheaties for my grandfather. When I was sorting it wasn't unusual to get 20-25 Canadian pennies in a box.

Yes, a Loomis box will often yield 20-25 Canadians; however, a box of CWR's can easily yield as few as 5-10 OR as many as 50-75 canadians. I once had a box yield 100+ Canadian pennies including three King George.

As mentioned in a different post, I pulled a 1938 King George nickel a few days ago. It's always exciting to find a George in an American roll. It's also rare too.

Went to a few banks and bought pennies yesterday. One bank sold me a bunch of colorful rolls (some were purple). Two of the rolls were marked "unsorted Canadian". Rolls were 100 percent copper including 8 King George pennies. One of the George's was a 1937 (low mintage)
