Hi there,

Last night, I found, what I believe to be a 1587 Double Tournois coin. :D

This specific coin, if dated correctly, is from Henry III period and seems to be from Lyon France. It is 3.0gr in weight and should be composed of 80% copper and 20% silver.

I found this piece in an ordinary CWR, that I purchased from a man at the bank.

Gods knows what he was thinking. I am still heffy on the date, as I could only guess it from other images from that period and from ''photoshop simulation with colors and contrasts. :geek:

This is by far, and I am talking about light years above and beyond what I found before.

Here are the pictures:

I know....yes it is mine...

To find a one hundred year old coin is exciting. To find one that is three or four hundred years old is mind boggling. It was in a simple penny roll. The worst is that it was sticking out a bit, as it is slightly larger in diameter than a regular penny. I am excited, I could barely sleep last night thinking of what that coin had to go through, without ever being taken out of circulation. Well, now it is mine....

Cheers,

You could write a movie from the coin's point of view.

Very nice.

Thanks for the post.

Hi there,

I keep making scenarios. How the hell, did one of those coins, made it into a penny roll?

Scenarios range from:
- A guy with a metal detector finding it twenty years ago putting it in a jar with all the other coins and someone decided to roll and get rid of it.
To: It was within the chest or furniture of some of the old convents or some other religious building and while clearing out, just got released into the wild.

Remember, I got it from a guy that I purchased at the bank his 25$ worth of penny. By the way, I still have some of them left (I want to carefully inspect them). Most rolls seems to be comprised of pennies 2002 and older, some have strange composition: three dimes (canadian and american), 2 x 2euro cent, 1x5euro cent, 1 x penny from Fidji.

I'll keep you psted if anything comes up.

Cheers,
