I don't know why the penny hasn't already been eliminated. With today's electronic cash registers you just round to the nearest nickel. Some transactions you gain a couple of cents and some you would loose a couple of cents and at the end of day you are about even and you eliminate handling and producing all those pennies. I know this will never happen because it makes too much sense.

I agree - eliminate it. And the paper $1 bill while they are at it.

They could just stop making them, and let the market phase them out. Imagine all of the coin jars that would be emptied to maintain the supply! Silver-copper-silver-copper-silver-copper WHOOHOO!
Honestly though, I don't see them being discontinued anytime soon. To do so would be to admit to the true extent of inflation, plus, states are concerned about the impact on thier sales tax revenue if prices are rounded to the nearest $.05.

I agree with them, don't bother to save them.
I will be upset if they do away with them all together.
