Our only hope is that there are still enough good guys at the local level who will know which direction to point their gear when the time comes.

Blurring the line between police and military, so that the sheeple won't protest when they violate posse comitatus.

If the local police enforce federal law over State law, what's the difference?
And that gear will not go to auction. "Civilians" are not allowed to have it. It will be incinerated first. And if it gets too expensive too maintain then you can expect more speed traps and "click it or ticket" and "code enforcement" to boost the revenue and "crime statistics" to justify it.

The survivalist groups teen agers hang out in sometimes have a theme going about a Mad Max survivalist situation. All those small town cops having that gear, and a big economic crash rolls in? Maybe the teen's are not so stupid after all.
